“The Town Council gave our letter some initial consideration at its meeting of 5 October. Chris Welch, Julia Duncan and Kate Page attended that meeting on behalf of ERA. A number of councillors spoke about the issues we raised and nearly all were supportive. The Council decided to refer our letter to a committee (the Town Improvement Committee) for follow up. That committee is chaired by Gerry O’Donnell and the Deputy Chair is Peter Landi. Paul Warrick and Chris Welch have since meet them and had a useful discussion about taking things forward.

Chris Welch also attended the committee’s meetings on 19 October and 16 November. Discussions at those meetings have centred around funding an appropriate PR programme for Ramsgate. ERA provided the Councillors with a draft PR plan for Ramsgate (see the newspage) and, independently, Suzy Humphries, an ERA member and one of the key people behind the Ramsgate Arts Forum, also gave an informative presentation on her suggestions for marketing Ramsgate.

Councillor Gerry O’Donnell’s proposal for £19,000 to be provided in the next financial year to cover a part time Marketing PR officer and the establishment of a website was carried with support from Councillors Peter Landi, Barbara Byrne and David Green . Councillor Kay Dark voted against the proposal and Councillor Brenda Rogers abstained. The proposal now has to be approved by the Finance committee at its December meeting. We hope the rest of our ideas will be reviewed by the Town Improvement Committee at its January 2010 meeting.
