Walkabout 2009 Following a similar exercise a couple of years ago, on March 18th 2009 Councillor David Green organised a review of 'problem' buildings and 'problem' areas in the Eastcliff in the form of a 'Walkabout'. He invited representatives from the Conservation Department and Building Control together with Thanet District Council's Empty Property Officer and three representative's from The Police. Also present was County Coucillor Liz Green and the Secretary of the ERA together with Jessica Bailey, TDC Community Safety Officer, who kindly took notes and produced a report. The idea was to focus on how best to improve these problem areas and decide who was best placed to achieve this. Mike Thompson, the Empty Properties Officer, was aware of and dealing with most of the problems of the buildings visited. Where appropriate other officers of the Council who were present offered to take action. Below is a summary of the buildings and areas visited: Belmont Street - Empty Chapel King Street - Formerly Braces pub 148 King Street 138 King Street 156 King Street 154 King Street Portland Court Boundary Park - Derelict toilet block Sussex Street - Corner of Sussex St. Unsafe building and unsecured site Corner of Bellevue Ave/Plains of Waterloo - Bad pointing, plastic windows Alley opposite Trove and Kennedy on POW - Needs Sweeping and clearing 38 Camden Square Parking Issues in Camden Square La Belle Alliance Sq - Children’s Play area: Need more bins and Dog fouling Signage TDC Flats - Litter collecting in entrance Iron Duke - Listed building urgent repairs notice needed Bellevue Road - Property opposite Augusta Road - Wall broken, shop front coming away. Scaffolding needs to be covered to stop young people climbing. Truro Road - Alleyway along side garages If anyone has concerns about a building in this area, not mentioned above, please contact the ERA and we shall endeavour to find out what is happening.
